New iPhone leak confirms Apple’s major obstacle

Qualcomm financial chief George Davis used the company’s earnings call to reveal Apple has chosen to use objectively inferior hardware in core components of its new iPhones, as noted by CNet.

While consumers remain enthusiastic about Apple upcoming iPhones, touting new sizes and world-first technologies, the highlighted advantage involves Apple’s larger price cuts.

As a result, the disadvantage for Apple is noted in its overall revenue, fluctuating shares, and notable competition strategies, which leads to questionable product quality in forthcoming releases.

“Apple intends to solely use our competitor’s modems rather than our modems in its next iPhone release,” explained Davis.

This competitor is Intel and independent testing has repeatedly shown this month that Qualcomm modems deliver vastly better real-world 3G and 4G performance compared to Intel modems. For example, almost 500,000 user tests on T-Mobile and 570,000 user tests on AT&T showed typical download speeds to be 53-68% faster while worst-case download speeds were 97-192% faster.

Apple and Qualcomm are currently involved in a long-running and increasingly caustic legal battle over patent infringements and royalty disputes. As such, rather than work it out, the two companies have parted ways and everyone – Apple, Qualcomm, and each new iPhone buyer – loses.

This year, Qualcomm will launch its first 5G smartphone modem, while Intel is a year behind. CNet sources report, “This disparity looks set to continue for iPhone customers for years to come.”

The reports and statements demonstrate a challenge towards the upcoming iPhone range, which includes a second generation 5.8-inch iPhone X, massive 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus, and budget iPhone X-inspired model some are dubbing the ‘iPhone 9’.

Samsung promotes radical Galaxy Note 9 upgrades

Samsung has confirmed numerous new features today, weeks ahead of the August 9th unveiling event in New York City. has now started teasing its new flagship smartphone. The first teaser that Samsung posted on YouTube today highlights reports that the Galaxy Note 9 will tout a new battery life.

A sizable increase in battery life is a notable feature as Samsung remains cautious since the beginning of Note 7s exploding battery incidences over the span of three years. The company apologized and implemented new safety mechanisms in the process.

Recent reports have suggested that the Galaxy Note 9 is going to feature a 4,000mAh battery. The advancement is a significant improvement in the battery department for the Galaxy Note 9, considering the fact that the Galaxy Note 8 has a 3,300mAh battery.

Today, Samsung has hinted towards these new developments for its next flagship smartphone by highlighting the handset will address one of the core issues stemming from battery life.

“We are becoming increasingly more demanding of our smartphones and it becomes a challenge to provide substantial battery life without making the device thicker or heavier. Gains have to be made elsewhere before the battery capacity can be increased on flagship smartphones,” technology reports state from BGR.

Samsung now lauds that the Galaxy Note 9 will join the list of smartphones that offer a larger battery quality. Confirmation of the targeted size, involving a 4,000mAh capacity, have not been fully endorsed in advance, however, it has been mentioned in multiple reports from both unverified and credible sources.

AT&T starts 5G trials

The network provider has begun their first trials on making 5 G reality. They believe that 5G will be launched to the public in 2020.

The first test will be done at Intel office. The network will cover a little over 2400 meter square and will last around a month. They hope to see how the 5G would help dynamism an internet reliant company such as Intel.

AT&T believes they are the first to launch such tests, even before more obvious candidates like Google. With 4G already showing impressive speeds what will be fathomed by 5G has created quite the excitement.

4G has been around for a few years, and it is believed that many phone companies are only starting to transition to 4G fully in many parts of the world. If that is not, enough, many phone providers still heavily invest in 3G.

Many companies believe that AT&T is being too ambitious and this could backfire on them if the rest can’t keep up with them.

But the company believes that eventually people will move to 5G, and they will be the first there. “IT funny that many people think we are running to first. Technology as about moving forward,” said AT&T representative. “Eventually all companies will come on board. Some may take longer, but eventually everyone will follow us.”

The company hopes that 5G will be able to achieve 4K gaming and video and VPN fits that not even 4G has been able to reach this far.

Google adds DRM to Android apps

Google revealed new security developments. in which the company will be adding a small amount of security metadata with the APKs. The new feature will enable verification of the APK distributed by Google Play.

Earlier this week, Google quietly introduced the feature, with intentions to increase the security of the Android platform by adding a string of metadata to all APK files.

The advanced security technology provides an offline distribution channel authorized for use with Google Play as an added benefit to developers. P2P shared apps will be eligible for online updates from the store.

“This will make it possible to verify an app even you’re offline,” Google said, “making it possible to officially add that title to your store library and receive updates through Goole’s portal.”

Developers are now supported in the reach towards more people in countries where app sharing is common because of costly data plans and limited connectivity.

In hindsight, Google could enforce various limitations that would do the opposite of the above. NotebookCheck reports how Electronic Arts has enforced limitations numerous times, highlighting the dissatisfaction of public users which involving these measures.

Google Play customers and developers will not be required to make any changes or take special action with the new security feature.

Apple’s CEO Cook Given pay cut as sales slump

Apple has just experienced its first sales drop in 15 years after the sales of iPhone took a downward trend. This, in turn, has led to the company’s CEO Tim Cook being handed a 15 percent pay cut.

The Company said that the sales of iPhones had gone down and revenues had dropped, citing that as the reason the company was forced to cut Cooks pay along with all its top executives. But looking at the figures, Cook will not have a reason to complain as he has still done extremely well.

The compensation package went from $10.3 million for the past year to $8.7 million for the fiscal year that ended in September.

According to the latest figures from the company, sales decreased by 8 percent to $216 billion, while the operating profit decreased by 16 percent to $60 Billion. The iPhone was responsible for the decline in all their products.

It was also the first time since 2001 that annual revenue dropped since Steve Jobs launched the musical player iPod. This then produced the iPhone and iPad. The iPhone changed the way we look at phones, and despite its high price and competition from other brands, it became a very sort of status symbol, defying all the odds.

Apple had anticipated a sales drop, but not a steep one like the one that occurred. There is still hope that sales could have rebounded over the holiday season, but we will find that out when the quarterly results, that include the festive season will be released in towards the end of this month.

Apple smartwatches could really save lives

A new study has revealed the Apple watch has been found to detect a heart ailment that affects approximately 2.7 million people in the United States.

By pairing the smartwatch’s heart rate sensors with artificial intelligence, the scientists were able to develop an algorithm capable of distinguishing an irregular heartbeat – known as atrial fibrillation (AF) –from a regular rhythm, with 97 percent accuracy.

Although easily treatable, atrial fibrillation has been difficult to diagnose.

As a result, the team believes that their work could pave the way for new methods to identify the condition.

Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that can cause blood to clot in the heart, which then leads to a stroke.

One in four strokes is caused by Atrial fibrillation.

The research was carried out by the University of California, San Francisco, in collaboration with the app Cardiogram – which tracks a person’s sleep, stress, and fitness via the Apple Watch’s inbuilt heart rate sensor.

According to AppleInsider, the researchers trained a deep neural network with heart readings from 6,158 Cardiogram users. The team recorded 139 million heart rate measurements and 6,338 mobile ECGs from a sample group.

The collected data was then used to develop a unique algorithm to detect the irregular heartbeat that is caused by atrial fibrillation.

To put the algorithm to the test, the scientists validated it against 51 patients who were scheduled to receive treatment for AF.

Each study participant was required to wear an Apple Watch for 20 minutes before and after cardioversion – a procedure that restores normal heart rhythms to patients suffering from arrhythmias.

The Artificial Intelligence was found to detect the heart abnormality with 97 percent accuracy.

“Our results show that conventional wearable trackers like smartwatches present a novel opportunity to monitor, capture and prompt medical therapy for atrial fibrillation without any active effort from the patients,” said Dr. Gregory Marcus, Director of Clinical Research at UCSFs’s Division of Cardiology, speaking to AppleInsider.

Although this study has the potential to change how people with AF are diagnosed, the researchers believe there is still more work to be done before sharing it with the public.
