X-Men film undergoing reshoots

The X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie will be undergoing reshoots, though the additional photography is not as extensive as was reported originally, according to Collider.

A report in Montreal’s LaPresse that the film would require three months of reshoots — sparking speculation that large portions of the film’s story would be changed — has turned out to be untrue. Instead, the film will require only two and a half weeks of additional work.

The film was scheduled to be released in November 2018, and the date was pushed to February 2019 instead. Thanks to the busy schedules of the show’s cast, which includes Jessica Chastain, Sophie Turner, and James McAvoy, the short reshoots were delayed for several months.

According to Collider, small blocks of reshoots like this are common with blockbuster films. It will involve some additional action for the third act, some new scenes, and extra shots for additional scenes, pointing to standard updates rather than a major reworking of the plot.

Details about the film are sparse, and it is unclear which actors will be involved in the reshoots. Fans also know that the film will take place in the 1990s, 1o years after X-Men: Apocalypse, and follow the Dark Phoenix comics arc, which places Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey in the center of the story. Jessica Chastain will play a new, pivotal role as well. Simon Kinberg, who wrote and produced several other X-Men films, will direct.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is now scheduled for a release date of February 14, 2019.

Drake explains blackface photo

Drake has offered an explanation for a photo of him wearing blackface that has surfaced during the feud between him and fellow rapper Pusha T, CNN reported.

In a note posted on Instagram, Drake told fans that the photo was taken in 2007 as part of a project that he undertook with his friend Mazin Elsadig when both were attempting to work as actors. The project, according to Drake, sought to emphasize the struggles that young black actors may face when trying to get film roles as a result of their skin color.

“This was to highlight and raise our frustrations with not always getting a fair chance in the industry and to make a point that the struggle for black actors has not changed much,” Drake said.

Pusha T used the photo as the cover art for a new diss track, “The Story of Adidon.”

“I don’t edit images…this is a REAL picture,” Pusha T captioned a tweet showing the photo. “These are his truths, see for yourself.”

Drake has not responded to Pusha T’s latest track, which was released Wednesday, aside from his Instagram post.

Chad Michael Murray denies Sophia Bush’s claims about their marriage

Chad Michael Murray took to Twitter to refute his ex-wife Sophia Bush’s claim that she never actually wanted to marry him, E! News reported.

The pair met on the set of One Tree Hill and married in 2005, less than a year after getting engaged. They separated five months later and divorced in 2006.

On Wednesday, Bush said on the Radio Andy radio show that she felt pressured into getting married, and that it was “not a thing I actually really wanted to do.”

Bush told host Andy Cohen that she felt not marrying Murray would be letting people down.

“You have bosses telling you that you’re the only person who gets a person to work on time, and 200 people either get to see their kids at night or don’t because our days start on time,” Bush said in the interview.

Murray’s representative told People the next day that the story was “ludicrous.” Murray posted a GIF of Disney’s Pinocchio, as if to imply that Bush was lying about their marriage.

Bush responded on Twitter, too, saying that she had been making fun of herself in the interview and did not intend to harm anyone else with her comments.

Chris Brown arrested on warrant

Chris Brown was arrested in Florida on Thursday night, according to CNN.

Brown was in West Palm Beach to perform at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre, and he was arrested immediately following the concert, according to People.

He was arrested on an outstanding out-of-county warrant that was issued last year, the Palm Beach County sheriff’s office said.

According to People, the warrant was for felony battery and was issued in April 2017 by the Hillsborough County sheriff’s office. Brown allegedly punched the AJA Channelside’s photographer  during a paid appearance at the Tampa club, then left the scene before officers arrived. The victim declined medical attention and said he intended to prosecute.

Brown was released on bail about an hour after he was booked on Thursday.

Brown has had several run-ins with the law, including the infamous charges of felony assault and making criminal threats against then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He and his bodyguard were also arrested in 2013 after an alleged altercation outside a Washington D.C. hotel, and Brown was kicked out of a rehab facility later that year after smashing his mother’s car window during a family therapy session.

‘Hamilton’ movie rights up for bidding

The hit Broadway musical Hamilton may be in movie theaters as early as 2020, according to Movie Web.

However, the film produced will not be an adaptation. Instead, the rights are for a high-quality recording of the live stage play that has already been produced and features the original cast and set, as well as an intermission. The recording is from 2016 and has been screened already for potential buyers, which include Warner Bros., Twentieth Century Fox, and Netflix. Warner Bros. recently bought the rights to Hamilton creator’s musical In the Heights as well.

The play’s worldwide film rights area available for bidding beginning at around $50 million. While the purchase price is high for a film, investors will likely still be interested in the movie, as the play’s popularity is expected to generate significant interest from fans who have been unable to pay more than $100 per ticket but who would likely see the film and purchase DVDs.

Hamilton, which features a heavy dose of historical rap, chronicles the life of Alexander Hamilton and was a surprise smash hit when it premiered. The production is making an estimated $100 million per year thanks to box office and soundtrack sales combined. Hamilton is the winner of 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It is currently on tour in the U.S. and can also be seen in New York, Chicago, and London.

Certain plays, including Jesus Christ Superstar, have played in theaters or on television as one-time events, making a theatrical release of a Broadway play’s live recording an unprecedented event.

‘Game of Thrones’ actors receive self-destructing scripts

In an effort to maintain secrecy about Game of Thrones‘s final season, actors in the show have learned their lines from self-destructing scripts, according to the New York Post. The special digital copies disappear immediately after filming a scene.

“They’re very, very strict,” said Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on the show. “It’s like Mission: Impossible.”

Thanks to the show’s popularity, as well as its digression from the plot of the books that inspired it, keeping a tight lid on spoilers has been a top priority for producers. Fans have reportedly gone to great lengths to get information, including sneaking onto set.

The fight against spoilers has become an industry-wide crusade. Disney reportedly prints Star Wars scripts on dark red paper because it cannot be photo copied, and scripts used on Captain America: Civil War were required to be shredded at the end of each day of filming.

Game of Thrones faces several risks aside from leaked scripts as well: it is the most illegally downloaded show on television, according to A.V. Club. In addition, HBO has had to deal with hackers stealing episodes before they were released in previous seasons.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ production on hold

Production on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 has been put on hold following director James Gunn’s firing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The small crew that had been already hired for the film has been dismissed and given the right to look for new work. While Disney never released a premiere date for the film, an anonymous source said that the timeline for the movie has shifted, meaning that it will likely be released later than anticipated.

Gunn was fired after jokes he tweeted 10 years ago about rape, pedophilia, and other topics were rediscovered by right-wing Twitter users.

Gunn apologized for the tweets previously and issued a second statement shortly after his firing.

“I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time,” Gunn said. “Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then.”

Fans and cast members alike have spoken up about their disappointment over the decision, with the main cast of the Guardians films signing a letter in support of the director.

“We are not here to defend his jokes of many years ago but rather to share our experience having spent many years together on set making ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ 1 and 2,” the letter said. “The character he has shown in the wake of his firing is consistent with the man he was every day on set, and his apology, now and from years ago when first addressing these remarks, we believe is from the heart, a heart we all know, trust and love.”

‘Buffy’ showrunner clarifies reboot label

Monica Owusu-Breen, the creator of the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, hinted in a tweet that the series will be a continuation rather than a reboot, according to The Verge.

Owusu-Breen, who is working with the original show’s creator, Joss Whedon, was the source of significant backlash from Buffy fans after her show was announced.

In response, Owusu-Breen tweeted reassurances to fans that she cared deeply about the show and would not be trying to replicate or replace Whedon’s original series.

“There is only one Buffy,” she tweeted. “But here we are, twenty years later…And the world seems a lot scarier…So maybe, it could be time to meet a new Slayer…And that’s all I can say.”

Information about the show’s plot and characters has been scarce, though a black actress has been confirmed for the lead role of Buffy.

In the original series, Buffy is a Slayer, a magical person who is granted supernatural strength and skill in order to fight evil. The show made clear that there could only be one Slayer at a time, until Buffy and her friends disperse the Slayer power to dozens of women in the season 7 finale. The multi-Slayer theme continued in a series of spin-off comics that constituted an additional four seasons of the story. Whedon approved of the comics and said that he considered them to be canon.

A premiere date for the sequel series has not yet been released.
