Baby Cow Escapes Slaughterhouse, Then Unlikely Woodland Animals Adopt Her As Their Own

Every now and again, you run across a story about pigs, ponies, and other farm animals who have made a break for it during round ups for slaughter. Bonnie the cow managed that same escape, but then opted for what we’ll call the “scenic route.”

Last fall, she and the rest of her herd were living at a farm in Holland, New York, but it was about to close. They were all going to be sold at auction and eventually slaughtered, but Bonnie’s the delicate sort and all those cries and bellows were too much for her young ears. Spooked, she took off and disappeared into a nearby forest.
She was just four months old at the time and residents in the surrounding area searched high and low for weeks, fearing she wouldn’t survive once the ground was covered with thick blankets of snow.
But that forest is also home to deer, and somehow she managed to form an unlikely alliance with one herd. They not only welcomed her, but provided all the warmth and companionship a little calf could need.

But the people who were out looking for her didn’t know any of this until a couple months after she disappeared, when hunters spotted her on their wildlife cameras.

The arrangement with the deer was working now but would not be beneficial forever. So one of the town’s residents, Becky Bartels, took pity on the poor little orphan and made it her mission to bring her to safety.

All the neighbors were kind of talking about how she was in the woods and winter was coming … They started talking about how sad it was, like she’s all alone and she’s going to have to fend for herself, she’s probably going to starve for the winter. And so people were saying, “Someone should feed her,” and Becky became that someone.
So Becky spent the entire winter working her charm and bringing her gifts of food and bedding, until the little calf started approaching her willingly. (She also named her, taking the name from the infamous outlaw Bonnie Parker, of Bonnie & Clyde fame.)

This went on for about six months. But going out every day to hand feed a cow who’s taken up with a herd of wild deer couldn’t go on forever. So earlier this month, Becky got in touch with the folks over at the Farm Sanctuary, and a rescue crew spent more than a week trying to capture the wayward calf.

They loaded up two trailers full of supplies and transportable gates, which they used to create a temporary pen around the area where she was already coming to eat.

It was a long and arduous process, but the rescue crew led her onto the trailer and from there, to her new home at a sanctuary in Watkins Glen.

She’s in isolation for now, but once she settles down and gets her bearings, she’ll be introduced to the main herd. It won’t be long before she’s entertaining everybody around the food bins, and telling the calves bedtime stories about her life with the deer that year in the woods.

“I can’t even tell you how many tears were shed when she was finally on the trailer,” one of the crew members said. “We were so, so, so relieved that we got her.

Awesome Movies Where The Hero Dies

No one wants the hero to die in the end, and everyone wants a happy ending. Those are the general audience expectations for a movie. Most people will hate a movie simply because the writers defied those rules. But, every now and again, an awesome movie appears that kills off the hero at the end and gets away with it. It hurts, of course, to see the hero die. It’s inevitable to feel sad, maybe even depressed about it, but somehow the death of the hero made sense within those awesome movies and required us to work through the emotions of the story.

Things don’t turn out too great for General Maximus Decimus Meridius at the beginning of this film. His life is turned upside down, and he’s made into a gladiator. By the end, he’s able to taste sweet revenge but not before succumbing to his wounds and traveling to the wheat fields of Elysium.

The Departed

Scorcese knows how to make a great gangster film, and this movie is no exception. Though, the sudden and violent shoot-out at the end, resulting in the killing of the main characters hits you where it hurts; it almost couldn’t have ended any other way in retrospect.

The Shining

Jack Torrance is an author who needs a little peace and quiet to get his book completed, so he takes his family to an empty hotel to see it through. Unfortunately for his family, rather than writing the book, he goes insane and brutally attacks them. Still, while hunting down his son through a garden maze in a blizzard, he freezes to death.

Donnie Darko

It’s no secret this is a mind-bending movie. We’ll try to simplify it. Donnie believes he has to sacrifice himself to stop the impending apocalypse. So, of course, at the end of the movie, he dies.

Pan’s Labyrinth

This film reaches the tragic end of Ofelia being murdered by the very terrifying villain Vidal. But, as a result, she travels to the fantasy world where she becomes a queen.

The Hateful Eight

If you’re a character in a Tarantino movie, you’ll likely not make it out alive. This is especially true of The Hateful Eight. Trapped in a cabin and surrounded by a bad blizzard, Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and Sheriff Chris Mannix (Walter Goggins) receive mortal wounds but don’t let that stop them from seeking revenge against Daisy Domergue.

V for Vendetta

V’s primary goal is to inspire an uprising against a brutal totalitarian regime. He wishes to be a symbol of resistance rather than a crime-fighting vigilante. So, after he completes his quest for vengeance, he dies in the arms of Evey (Natalie Portman).

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

In this amazing science fiction action movie, the Terminator sent back to kill John Connor now has been sent back to rescue him from an even more powerful cyborg. When his mission is completed, the Terminator slowly descends into a vat of hot liquid with his thumb up in the air.

This tragic love story that needs no introduction follows poor painter Jack Dawson as he falls in love with the very wealthy Rose. We all know as the Titanic sinks, try as they might, Jack freezes to death in the cold Atlantic waters.

When his bride is murdered for assaulting an English officer, William Wallace starts a revolt against English King Edward I. We all wanted to see Wallace crush the English King under his foot in this film and might have even been tricked into thinking that was going to happen until reality set in and the truth came to light. Wallace is tortured to death while screaming, “Freedom!”

Biggest Google Maps Mistakes

We’ve all likely experienced a Google Maps mistake at some point. Maybe it took you down a strange route, led you into worse traffic, or kept bringing up a totally different location than you wanted. With technology, this stuff will happen. However, it’s one thing to get bad directions because of a Google Maps error and something else entirely when it involves international border negotiations. That’s right, Google Maps is so vital to the stability of the world that one mistake could lead to international disputes. Curious to hear more? Then get ready for the 25 Biggest Google Maps Mistakes.

Mount Rushmore

For nearly five years, Google Maps was sending people to the wrong location when they typed “Mount Rushmore, SD.” Instead, it took people to a retreat center called “Storm Mountain Center,” which was about thirteen miles away from the real Mount Rushmore. The problem became so persistent, they had to put up a street sign warning people about it.

Round Valley State Park

When people entered “Round Valley State Park” into Google Maps, they instead ended up at New Jersey resident Laurie Gneiding’s house. People trickled in at first, asking for the state park, and Gneiding would kindly tell them they were on private property and where the park was actually located. Eventually, dozens would come by every year at all hours, sometimes acting indignant and belligerent.

Wrong Direction

This is more human error than Google’s error, but at one point, Noel Santillan, an American tourist in Iceland, drove six hours in the wrong direction simply because he spelled part of the address wrong.

Emden, Germany

Located in North-West Germany, Emden sits right next to the Netherlands border, and Google made the error of including part of Emden’s harbor in Netherland’s territory. According to a Google spokesman, however, a border dispute dating back to the 15th century was to blame.

Boston South Station

A Redditor discovered the Google Map directions to Boston’s popular and traffic heavy South Station were placing the building underground adjacent to I-93. Even though the building extends below ground, there’s no entrance underground. He found this out when his driver kept dropping him off at the wrong spot.

Christ the Redeemer

Argentinian tourist Natalia Lorena Cappetti, her husband, and another couple used Google Maps to get to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. Instead, Google Maps took them to Morro dos Prazeres, one of their most dangerous slums. When they traveled through there, they endured heavy gunfire and Natalia Cappetti was shot in the back. At the time of reporting, she was in serious condition and undergoing surgery.

Rowlett, Texas

In 2016, Lindsay Diaz pulled up to her driveway to find quite a surprise – her entire house was demolished. The firm Billy L Nabors Demolition tore down her house by mistake, claiming they used an incorrect listing on Google Maps.

Underwater Tunnel

After using Google Maps for directions, a Turkish cyclist shut down a 4.5-mile underwater tunnel in Norway for thirty minutes as it wasn’t made for cyclists. Authorities had to go on a rescue mission to find the man and remove him from the area.

Preikestolen Cliff

For a time, tourists in Norway looking for Preikestolen cliff were in for a rude awakening if they used Google Maps. Instead, the app would send them to Fossmork, a small Norwegian village about 20-miles away.

Priyanka Chopra reveals she was bullied in US high school

Priyanka Chopra has revealed that she was racially abused in her first time living in the United States as a teenage schoolgirl.

The 34-year-old, who is covering June’s Glamour Magazine, told the publication that she was picked on badly in high school, leaving her to opt for a return to her native India.

The Quantico star, who has successfully made the transition from Bollywood to Hollywood, said that she came to live with an aunt when she was 12 years-old.

“I went with my cousin to her school, and it was so fascinating to me. Nobody wore uniforms. You had lockers. What my cousin said was really easy. I was like, ‘Ok, I don’t have to study,’ and I would get A’s” Priyanka said.

Priyanka – who went on to win Miss World in 2000 – said she convinced her mom to study in the United States. She lived in Iowa, New York, Indianapolis, and Boston.

She, however, said that the negative aspects outweighed the positives, and she returned to India after three years thanks to racist bullying in school.

“There was this girl who was a major bully… that girl in school used to call me ‘curry’”, Priyanka told the publication, adding that Indians are afraid of letting people see the glory of who they are.

Chopra voiced her belief that she doesn’t believe there’s a huge understanding of Indian culture in the United States, saying that the fault lays with Indians, who tend to forget their roots a bit.

Priyanka showcased her stunning looks in a sexy semi-clad shoot for the glamour magazine.

Farrah Abraham almost quits Teen Mom OG

Teen Mom OG participant, Farrah Abraham, opened up about almost quitting the show.

Abraham had an extremely passionate argument with her estranged mother, Debra Danielson, in the premiere episode of the WE tv reality show. On the Friday episode, Debra and Farrah, who had a similar blowout in 2010 resulting in Debra being arrested for domestic abuse after she was accused of choking Farrah, argued about their relationship. The charges were dropped and Danielson claimed that it was Abraham that had her in a headlock. Abraham, after the most recent altercation, almost walked off of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars Family Edition.

“Why am I raising my voice, why I am arguing and fighting up against somebody who can’t admit to what is really happening and going in in our family history?” said Farrah in an interview with E! News. “I get really upset when I’m around liars. I detest people who lie. I can’t stand it.”

With the argument beginning in the premiere episode, it seems that they will continue to fight throughout the season.

“There is an episode where we talk about traumatic experiences, my mom and I, and we still cannot get on the same page,” said Farrah. “So sometimes between lie detector tests and traumatic experiences, there’s just a certain point in time where you’re like, somebody does not have the wherewithal to take accountability to even remember things, and you’re like, ‘Why do I even want to be around them anymore?’ The best narcissists can block things out and act like nothing ever happened to just keep going.”

Greta Van Susteren leaving MSNBC

After just six months on the air at MSNBC, former Fox News host Greta Van Susteren is out, say network executives. They cite poor ratings as the reason for her exit.

“MSNBC and Greta Van Susteren have decided to part ways,” said MSNBC President Phil Griffin in a statement, as reported by Politico. “Greta is a well-regarded television veteran and one of only a few broadcasters who can say they’ve hosted shows at all three cable news networks. We are grateful to her and wish her the best.”

An MSNBC executive told Politico that the separation was “amicable,” but that efforts to boost Van Susteren’s show’s ratings had been unsuccessful.

Van Susteren, a former lawyer, would not comment except by tweeting, “I am out an MSNBC.”

She had no prior notice of the network’s decision, a friend informed CNNmoney. The friend also said Van Susteren was told she had not been confrontational enough on air.

Before joining MSNBC, Van Susteren was taken off FoxNews abruptly amid a contract dispute after 14 years with the right-wing network. She was among a few Fox hosts who defended network boss Roger Ailes against allegations of sexual harassment, but later said she regretted doubting his accusers, according to Vanity Fair.

The decision to remove Van Susteren comes as MSNBC has been seeing a tremendous ratings boost, even out-performing Fox News in prime-time viewership in the coveted 25-54 age bracket.

MSNBC’s chief legal correspondent, Ari Melber, host of ‘The Point,’ will now permanently replace Van Susteren in her former 6 p.m. time slot.

100 talented workers offered free trip to New Zealand by

Officials and businesses in Wellington, New Zealand, are offering 100 talented workers from around the globe a free trip to New Zealand, in an effort to boost the city’s growing tech hub.

The offer has piqued the interest of many, with 12,000 people completing the applications so far. Thousands more are registering as the March 20 deadline.

Justin Lester, the city’s mayor, said their tech sector has been growing at annual rate of 14 percent over the past five years.

“The problem we need to solve is that we have a whole lot of businesses that are struggling to keep up with recruitment,” the mayor said.

The campaign is dubbed LookSee and was first promoted in tech hubs like San Francisco, which is more than 6,000 miles from Wellington.

Approximately a third of the applicants are from the United States. However, that mix is changing as more people from around the globe find out about the offer.

“This is the first time a city has approached recruitment this way,” said David Jones, who is assisting oversee the campaign at the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency.

Successful applicants will get free flights to New Zealand and free accommodation during their four-day visit to Wellington.

The candidates will also get a chance to visit some of the City’s sights, and also meet tech leaders. They are expected for three jobs each, but are under no obligation to accept any offer.

The campaign will cost 850,000 New Zealand dollars ($588,000) and will be paid for by a combination of taxpayer money and contributions from local businesses.
