Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth arrived in the northwest of England for a series of royal engagements, Fox News reported. The occasion marks the first time that Markle has attended an event with only the Queen and no other members of the royal family present.
The pair arrived by royal train at Runcorn Station on Thursday, where they were greeted by David Briggs, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire. They met with architects, planners, and community representatives at the Mersey Gateway Bridge to celebrate its grand opening and attended a performance by local children as part of the festivities.
Queen Elizabeth wore a suit in a characteristically bright shade of lime green, while the new Duchess of Sussex wore a beige Givenchy pencil dress.
Ingrid Seward, who has written several books about the royal family, told People magazine that Markle’s solo trip with the Queen is taking place much sooner than Kate Middleton’s after her marriage to Prince William.
Royal appointments like the trip north are arranged in order to help new royals like Markle become more accustomed to royal life, according to Charles Anson, the Queen’s former press secretary.
“Showing people the ropes is a high priority for the Queen,” Anson said.
New medical research indicates a mix of microbes in your gut can either help or hinder weight-loss efforts. “We started with the premise that people have different microbial makeups, and this could influence how well they do with dieting,” says Purna Kashyap, a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic.
Kashyap and her team tracked the progress of individuals who were participants in a weight-loss lifestyle-intervention program. They advised the participants to follow a low-calorie diet as the researchers tracked them closely for three months.
They discovered that people who lost at least 5 percent of their body weight had different gut bacteria than those who did not lose 5 percent of their body weight. According to their findings, the successful dieters had an increased amount of Phascolarctobacterium.
Another bacteria, Dialister, was associated with an inability to lose weight. Kashyap says there probably are other types of bacteria that influence dieting too.
As it turns out, we can get a large number of calories from microbes. We do not have the right enzymes to digest every bit of certain types of food, but our bacteria can.
These bacteria eat what we cannot, and during the process of eating they produce byproducts that we digest. These byproducts become another source of calories.
The new study concludes that certain bacteria may be more efficient at creating extra calories for the body to digest. And microbes in the gut could hinder or help efforts to lose weight.
The trend, labeled ‘Snapchat dysmorphia’, suggests some people are experiencing a disturbing distraction from reality due to social media selfie filters.
Plastic surgeons are reporting that patients are coming to them with selfies of themselves edited using the filters on Snapchat or Instagram, requesting to permanently appear as their retouched photo.
Researchers at the Boston medical center have authored an article in the journal JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, which labels the trend “Snapchat dysmorphia” and argues that filters on apps are having a disastrous impact on people’s self-esteem.
Snapchat comes with a range of filters that immediately distort photos using artificial intelligence. They can make skin appear smoother, lashes look longer and bone structure appear more angular.
The report says these filters are sometimes triggering body dysmorphic disorder, a mental illness that leads to compulsive tendencies such as excessive beauty procedures, wasting hours obsessing over non-existent flaws and withdrawing from social activities.
The Guardian reports that the trend is particularly concerning to doctors because filters on Snapchat provide not just idealistic standards of beauty but entirely unhuman ones, presenting “an unattainable look and are blurring the line of reality and fantasy for these patients”, according to the report.
Separately from patients specifically trying to look like their selfies, over half of plastic surgeons also report patients saying that they are seeking procedures so they can look better in selfies, according to the report.
Previously, nose jobs were the most common request. However, the authors say, people are now seeking procedures that will have effects similar to selfie filters, such as nasal and facial symmetry, rhinoplasties, hair transplants, and eyelid surgical procedures.
Popular messaging application AOL Instant Messenger, from the late 90s and early 2000s, has reemerged as AIM Phoenix, without AOL association.
AIM operates through the same corresponding AOL software while controlled by Wildman Productions, a non-profit gaming development team.
Users will have no access to old buddy lists or messages due to the dissolved affiliation with AOL. Nonetheless, there is an opportunity to obtain the username or old credentials before the acquirement by another user.
When launched in 1997, AIM was a staple of personal computers. Created as an extension of AOL’s desktop software, the instant messaging client helped to revolutionize the way people interact online. The service’s popularity declined as social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter took over the online social scene.
AOL only officially shut down the service late last year, citing a “cultural shift” in the way people communicate.
Users may download the old version from the AIM Phoenix website where a prompt to choose from 10 different release options spanning from 1.0 to AIM Lite will appear.
Opting for the Lite version allows users to choose from nine different themes including Gray Moose, RedBull, and Pink Sparkles.
>Most people these days seem to be breaking away from tradition and doing whatever they want, especially when it comes to relationships, marriage, and starting a family. But that’s okay because this actually keeps things interesting. Now, in the case of Mark Thomas, things didn’t go in the order that you’d expect. He and his wife fell in love and eventually had a daughter. Years later, they decided to get married. But after Mark and his wife, Kathryn tied the knot, Mark chose to pop the question. Wait! What? Wouldn’t he have to have done that before he got married? Actually, it wasn’t Kathryn he proposed to. It was his daughter.
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Mark Thomas with the baby carriage.
Actually, things didn’t exactly go in that order for Mark and his wife, Kathryn. First, they fell in love back in 2012, and then they had a daughter named Evelyn, who is now four years old. But the little girl didn’t want to feel left out of her parent’s wedding.
Little Evelyn decided to steal the spotlight and let everyone know that this was her big day!
Most parents would have corrected Evelyn and reminded her that this was Mommy and Daddy’s big day, but Mark and Kathryn didn’t do that. Instead, they encourage her misconception. After all, this was an important occasion for the entire family.
Then again, you can’t expect a little girl to experience her big day without getting a ring.
So, Mark Thomas walked up to Evelyn, who was sitting on the couch in the living room. Then, he got on one knee, took out a ring and proposed to his daughter. The moment was unforgettable and it was obvious that the little girl was tickled pink by her dad’s kind gesture.
Mark and Kate got married on April 14, 2018, and after the wedding, Evelyn had asked about a ring.
The little girl was expecting a ring of her own and her dad didn’t disappoint her. He went to the jewelers, got her a ring, and proposed to her properly. Of course, he probably should have left out the part where he told her that mommy had gotten two rings, but the little girl was okay with one.
Mark was very chivalrous as he opened the ring box to show Evelyn, and the little girl was delighted.
She reached out to grab her ring, which Mark described as a very special moment. Why? Because he told his daughter that he and Kathryn had always intended for the union to be about the three of them, not just about mommy and daddy.
The ring the girl received had a heart in the middle, which symbolized the love Mark felt for Evelyn.
The proposal was one of those hold your breath moments, but of course, there was no way that Evelyn was going to turn down the most important man in her young life. So, if you’re still wondering, you’ll be relieved to know that she said yes.
Evelyn picked up the ring to put it on her finger, but she needed a little help from her dear old dad.
Mark took the ring and placed it on her finger, but not before reminding her that once the ring went in, they were officially a family. The girl was so excited that she kissed the ring a bunch of times. Then she leaned into her dad, who carried her off like a knight.
Evelyn will likely have many precious moments to remember her father, but this is the sweetest.
Mark created the cutest memory ever for his daughter. But he also set the standards high on what a good father is, and now every man will likely have to aspire to be just as awesome as he has been to his daughter.
In this lovely video, you get to see as Mark gets on one knee, and with a ring box in his hand, asks his daughter if he’ll marry him. The moment is so adorable that it will make your heart melt in your chest.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) premiered the 797-horsepower 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, which the company highlighted Thursday at its Chelsea Proving Grounds.
Steve Beahm, head of passenger car brands for FCA North America, expressed numerous sentiments involving the high-performing vehicle. He notably acclaimed, “I like to say it’s a Hellcat that’s been possessed by a Demon.”
FCA explains the process of leveraging power output for the supercharged Hemi Demon V8, which powered the limited-edition Challenger SRT Demon that recently ended its production run in an attempt to boost the Hellcat Redeye.
Managing 707-pound-feet of torque with its 6.2-liter V8 mated to an eight-speed transmission, FCA says the Hellcat can reach 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 203 mph.
“Like its Demon brethren, it has 25 major component upgrades, including a larger supercharger, strengthened connecting rods and pistons, high-speed valve train, fuel injection system and improved lubrication system,” FCA explained in a news release.
While pricing has not yet been confirmed, Beahm stated the cost exists around $70,000 and with an availability in the fourth quarter of 2018.
In contrast to the Dodge Demon, the Hellcat Redeye will be broadly available to the public.
“We’re going to make them available to everyone rather than a select few,” Beahm said.
There may be over 15 million gallons of mercury buried beneath the permafrost in the Northern Hemisphere, and global warming could release it all, according to a new study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
Mercury occurs naturally in the Earth, but rarely does it all concentrate in one place. In fact, the mercury detected in the recent research is roughly twice as much as can be found in the rest of Earth’s soils, ocean, and atmosphere combined.
Permafrost is any soil that has been frozen for over two years. In the Northern Hemisphere, such soil makes up roughly 8.8 million square miles of land. As time passes, naturally occurring compounds in the atmosphere — including mercury and carbon dioxide — can bind with organic material in the soil and become trapped in the frost. It then stays there until the frost thaws.
To see how much mercury is trapped by the permafrost, researchers from the U.S Geological Survey drilled 13 permafrost soil cores from various sites in Alaska between 2004 and 2012. They then measured the total amounts of mercury and carbon in each sample. Using the measurements as a baseline, the team estimated that there is more than 15 million gallons of mercury sealed away below North American permafrost.
“There would be no environmental problem if everything remained frozen, but we know the Earth is getting warmer,” said lead author Paul Schuster, a hydrologist at the U.S. Geological Survey, according to Live Science. “This discovery is a game-changer.”
Past studies have observed climate-change induced permafrost thawing, and if current trends continue more is likely going to occur in the future. In fact, a 2013 study showed that the Northern Hemisphere will lose between 30 and 99 percent of its permafrost by 2100.
While scientists have analyzed several ways melting permafrost could harm the planet, there has been no research done on large-scale mercury leaks. One potential issue is that trapped mercury could seep into waterways and shift into toxic methylmercury. Such contamination could travel swiftly up the food chain and harm a wide range of organisms, from microbes all the way to humans.
To better explore the potential scenarios, the team plans to do a follow up study that will better show the effects of the melting soil.
“24 percent of all the soil above the equator is permafrost, and it has this huge pool of locked-up mercury,” added Schuster, in a statement. “What happens if the permafrost thaws? How far will the mercury travel up the food chain? These are big-picture questions that we need to answer.”
Cardi B and Offset were married in a secret ceremony in September 2017, according to TMZ.
The couple filed their marriage certificate on September 20 in Fulton County, Ga., meaning that they were married sometime before that. Offset officially proposed to Cardi one month later while she was performing in Philadelphia.
Offset thanked his “wife” when Migos won Best Group on Sunday at the BET awards, prompting speculation that they were already married.
Cardi B confirmed the news on Monday, saying that while she shares much of her life with her fans, the newness and tumultuous nature of her relationship with Offset led the pair to keep the news to themselves.
“I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring!” Cardi B wrote in her post. She also explained the late but very public proposal.
“I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting for me to have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me!!”
Cardi thanked her fans on Twitter for their support and understanding about the circumstances of the marriage.
