A shootout took place at the Irving Plaza just before the Grammy-winning rapper took the stage. Witnesses say that there was a scuffle in the VIP area which was crowded. The fight started between two rival rap groups led by emerging rappers Maino and Troy Ave.
A witness says that the VIP was too crowded, and it was just a matter of time before a fight erupted. He couldn’t be more right as a scuffle broke out after one too many pushes. The witness says that the fight may have started because of pushing, but the original confrontation was because of a woman that both crew members had a history with.
One of the people in the VIP pulled out a gun shot it up in the air before shooting someone in the chest. The man died on arrival to the hospital. Troy Ave was also one of the people to get injured in the crossfire.
The crowd scrambled for safely after the gunshots, but luckily nobody got seriously hurt. “It was real loud as it was in my ear,” said Kirk Elphage, 41, of Harlem. “People were using each other for shields. It was unbelievable.”
The police have however not made any arrests or charged anyone for the incidence. The public blames the police for inadequate security measures enforced in such concerts. They usually use a hand held metal detector which is very inefficient. This allows many people to go through with weapons. But the public also recommended the police for their quick response that reduced chances for any more injuries.
